Careers in Publishing

As so many people are passionate about books, getting into publishing can prove difficult.

Taking a conventional tack, a good start is to apply for entry-level positions. With smaller publishers, trainees can expect to gain hands-on experience in all aspects of publishing, while in larger companies they can gain highly specialised skills in specific areas. Industry vacancies are often advertised in the major papers, although Thorpe Bowker's Weekly Book Newsletter is the most reliable source for publishing positions.
