About Professional Development

APA’s Professional Development Workshop & Seminar program offers skills training and information sessions on a non-profit, breakeven basis, to better equip us to meet increasing demands in the industry. Courses will only run if the demand is high enough to cover costs. PD is supported by an Expert Reference Group (ERG) - a group of your peers who understand the changes occurring in our industry and can offer advice to ensure we deliver a high quality program.

We continue to develop events throughout the year and in response to need or requests. We customize workshops to suit in-house delivery for a range of industry and government clients.

If you are interested in joining the ERG or in providing ideas for training, please contact dee.read@publishers.asn.au

Are you on our database for regular updates? Please contact dee.read@publishers.asn.au.

Our commitment is to provide:

  • A genuine interest in your needs, with friendly communication prior to the event
  • Registration confirmation and reminder emails
  • Fee subsidies for out-of-state members and workshops in more isolated areas where possible
  • Able and qualified presenters with whom we negotiate fully in planning the courses
  • New workshops constantly in development
  • Tried and Trusted events which will be updated and repeated because they work
  • Core workshops which appear each year as part of Induction programs
  • Clear course outlines and clear expected outcomes
  • A Certificate of Attendance on the full day training events
  • Evaluation forms for your feedback - that we really do use to make changes in our program
  • Fee subsidies where applicable for members of the Society of Editors, Society of Authors and the Galley Club

We welcome your feedback or suggestions at any time.
