Representation

We represent our members in championing the interests of the Australian publishing industry to the government at federal and state level, and internationally. 

By becoming a member, you can have your say on the issues impacting the sector and your business. We advocate on your behalf, and work on policy development across a variety of issues – including competition laws, copyright, cultural policy, curriculum development, freedom to publish and open access.  

Participation

Members can contribute and direct our work, become part of a wider industry community, and help shape the future of publishing.

We work on behalf of our members, and participation in our work can take many forms – from attending events and contributing to industry wide surveys, through to involvement in our board, committees and working groups. 

Promotion

As a member organisation, you’ll gain access to a range of promotional opportunities for you and your business. 

This includes access to TitlePage – putting your titles in front of over 3,500 bookshops, libraries and suppliers – as well as opportunities for promotion through campaigns such as Australia Reads, and events like the Australian Book Industry Awards and Educational Publishing Awards. 

We also help Australian publishers promote their work overseas with support at international book fairs – both in-person, and online – through our Books From Australia website and program of events.

Your organisation will also gain access to the IPG Skills Hub – an online training platform with over 100 resources covering the full spectrum of publishing.

Keep up to date with the latest industry news and insights – along with the work of the APA and our committees – through our member-only website content and fortnightly member newsletter.

Annual industry benchmarking data is made available to contributors in both trade and educational publishing, while resources and research reports are shared widely with our member base.

Members receive discounted rates on event tickets and professional development opportunities, as well as discounts when entering for awards such as the Australian Book Industry Awards and Educational Publishing Awards.

You can also save money trading internationally, with preferential freight rates and discounts when exhibiting at international book fairs.Additionally, members receive discounts on a range of advertising opportunities – from promotion to booksellers through our TitlePage service, through to print advertising with Nine/Fairfax.
