The APA represents and promotes the publishing industry through our range of advocacy work – building trusted relationships with politicians, government bodies and key industry stakeholders.
The process of publishing books, educational materials, scientific journals and other texts is shaped by a range of policies, regulations and funding systems – both in Australia and internationally.
The APA works to improve this regulatory and funding environment for publishers, and demonstrate the value of publishing and reading to Australian society.
We meet and work regularly with a range of stakeholders – including copyright regulators, library systems managers, arts funders, education departments, public health bodies, research councils and other creative industries.
Our policy development work spans a variety of issues, such as competition laws, copyright, cultural policy, curriculum development, freedom to publish and open access.
Other work in this area includes conducting external research and consulting with our members, and making submissions to government and stakeholders.

The four groups meet regularly to progress their vision for a thriving Australian book industry. This work also includes joint submissions and funding proposals to the government and other bodies on issues impacting the wider book industry.
